4 Places to Plan a Trip to in South America in 2020

What do you wish to see in 2020? Highest peaks and waterfalls? Or Beaches with canopies of tall palms? Or do you prefer to discover cultures and histories?  Well, however diverse your preferences may be. You don’t have to think beyond one continent. South America.

South America is a travelers paradise. It is diverse in every aspect. While it is a specimen of nature’s generosity with dense Amazon rain-forests. It can also surprise you with vast dry desserts. Its streets echo with a colonial past and a culturally rich society of very friendly people. I have never met a single person who has ever visited South America, to not have deep desire to go back. So, if you are planning a trip to this beautiful continent, be prepared to experience a travel hangover.

Now, with such diversity, where do you begin?

No worries. I’m here to help you out with 4 beautiful places in South America where you can plan your trip to in 2020.

Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena has an atmosphere that smells with rich tradition and history. One of the most important marks of history here is the walled city, Ciudad Amurallada. It is where most of Colombia’s tourism is concentrated. From luxurious hotels to chic restaurants and bars. You can find it here. If you are looking for a cultural experience, begin with visiting the food markets. This is where you can buy local produce and also eat some delicious cuisines.  One very Colombian thing is a gold museum. You can find them in every other city.

Now, what if you want to have a little fun? Just hop on the party bus. Locals call it a ‘Chiva’. It has open bars, music and drops you off at the best clubs and bars in the area. And it is the best place to make new friends. But, if this isn’t your taste and you wish to have a lazy time. Colombia is replete with beautiful beaches. Sunbath, swim, or have a delectable serving of fish and coconut rice.

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

You can safely call Galapagos Islands one of the gems of this Earth and I’m sure no one would disagree. Let me begin by telling you that Galpagos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not only is the water protected, but its land is also a part of its nature reserve. These islands bag the first spot in natural diversity. Its isolated location, three ocean currents and fertile volcanic soil resulted in biodiversity that stuns everybody.

Begin your exploration by snorkeling or diving into the underwater ecosystem. You find a range of marine life from penguins and sharks to colorful corals and friendly sea lions. It is amazing. But, that’s not all. Hike through the dried lava and see craters and active volcanoes. Its land is also home to some very unique flora and fauna like giant tortoises and varieties of mangroves.

Machu Picchu, Peru

Here is another World Heritage Site for you to explore. Machu Picchu is an incredible work of art. It is known as a mysterious remnant of the Inca empire. Its mystery and marvel primarily attributed to its architecture. With stone walls and more than 700 terraces, this 500 year old beauty stands without the use of any mortar. Yes, the stones are just placed over one another with such precision that you can still safely visit this heritage site.

Machu Picchu is one very long but exciting hike. You’ll love its natural surroundings of misty green mountains and flowy river. And if that is not enough, as you proceed, new things unravel like the Temple of the Moon, Inca bridge and a hidden museum.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro is a land of many beauties. While you try to absorb its natural abundance, its rich culture will overwhelm you. The city is a vibrant garden. From the food to its people, you’ll love the ambience. After all, it is the first UNESCO Cultural Heritage of Humanity.  And if lucky, you may get to enjoy Samba at one of the city carnivals.

Along with a bustling urban life, Rio has several natural treasures. It has beautiful sandy beaches and the world’s largest urban forest- Tijuca National Park. For a little adventure, you can hike up to the top of Rio’s mountains for a bird’s eye view of the entire city.

Conclusion

These places are just the tip of the iceberg. South America has a lot more in store.

It is always better to contact a local travel agent who can give you an in depth tour of the areas. With an online portfolio builder, these local agents put up a display of their services and area of expertise. Look them up, get in touch and prepare for a wonderful South America tour.
